I'm Celebrating Women's History Month All Year
Lauryn Bodden
It's an odd thing to be part of an industry where women are all around, yet you still feel small—in some sectors more so than others. I am one of the lucky ones. I feel grateful for where I am in my career, but I am not blind to the fight the women before me, the women around, and the women ahead of me will lead.

Every March, Women's History Month is observed around the world as a time to commemorate the vital role of women in shaping history. Though the pandemic may have silenced 2020's theme of "Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to Be Silenced," 2021 continues to highlight loud and passionate voices of many. I am honored to put a megaphone to some of the incredible women, womxn, and female-identifying individuals specifically within the culinary world.

From a great group of female writers, to a powerful team of female editors and photographers, I programmed editorial and social media around this month to shine a light on the ones that inspire me and give hope to those looking for direction—whether in their careers, innovations, or recipes.

It's only through these interactions and articles that I realized how many food and kitchen innovations were driven by women. I learned women-owned brands like Omsom are creating purpose-led content to educate about harmful myths and tropes that affect BIPOC communities. I read about Beers With(out) Beards founder Grace Weitz supporting female-owned breweries and brewmasters across the country. And women like Chelsea Kravitz, who managed to raise $20,000 for struggling restaurants during the pandemic, all while trying to open her own brick and mortar bakery.

Let it be known, even a room of all women can feel lonely. Maybe we are just so used to the fight that we forget to stop, appreciate, and continue to uplift each other. Celebrating women—or anyone, for that matter—is not restricted to one month. We need to notice the ones working tirelessly around us whenever we can, because uplifting one uplifts us all.
