From Cory Silverberg, your Guide to Sexuality

How would you define real sex?  It's not a question you may have thought of. After all if you're having sex it's probably not on camera or in front of a crowd and whether you'd call it good or bad, you probably call it real.

But what about sex in porn?  If both people are acting, and everything is staged for the viewers arousal, is that more like a staged fight in a Hollywood movie than a bar room brawl?  What about sex where you faked an orgasm?  Was that real?   This week's newsletter is all about sex on film, some of it is presented as real, some of it isn't.  The neat thing is that the intellectual steps to deciding which is which offers you some insight into your own, very real, sexuality.  Happy viewing.  ~  Cory

Sex Documentaries

Some of the best, and best known documentaries about sex, sexuality, and gender.  At their best, documentaries offer a window into sexual cultures and practices you've never known before.  At their worst they tell you a lot more about the filmmakers sexual problems than they do about anyone else's experience of sexuality.  Our list has both.

Real Sex Scenes in Mainstream Films

A collection of films, from the 1970s to the present day which are known in part because the sexual scenes are rumored to be "real" meaning the actors did not rely on the fade to black, and instead engaged in sexual activities for the camera.
