From Christine Luff, your Guide to Running & Jogging
If you've run in or watched a road race recently, you may have noticed a majority of the runners out there are wearing headphones, at some point during the race. I personally don't usually listen to music in races, but I know lots of people who can't imagine running a race without it.

Does Music Give Runners an Advantage?
Headphones or other music listening devices used to be banned in marathons (though some races were lax about the rules) up until a couple of years ago, when the USATF lifted the ban for everyone except those competing for awards. The music ban for elites begs the question: Does listening to music give runners a competitive edge?
