Hi Azriel,
This month has been chock full of nutrition news with increased attention on consumer health, given that it's Wise Consumer Health Month and given that the USDA just released its 2011 Dietary Guidelines. Nutrition information in the media can be confusing, contradictory, and sometimes downright harmful. I'd like to offer the Delicious Health perspective on some of the recent buzz in my article this month, Dishing on the New 2011 USDA Dietary Guidelines. If you recall from my last newsletter - I've been working on some changes around here. While I'm not ready yet to unveil anything yet, rest assured that what's coming is going to be delicious!!! I would LOVE your input as I work hard to get this next wave of great programs ready for you. So I created a mini-survey WITH A GIFT to beg and cajole you for input. You can click here to take it. Everyone who completes the survey will receive a giveaway of their choice (you can indicate your preference in the survey). This month's recipe is one of my new favorites that was the result of a pantry experiment: Sweet Cauliflower-Apple Soup. It's perfect for winter-into-spring as a detoxing soup for chilly weather that will fill you up with a hint of both sweet and savory goodness.
I hope you enjoy your Byte. If you change your mind, you may unsubscribe at any time by scrolling to the very bottom of this page and clicking on the unsubscribe link. Enjoy the final days of winter!

Featured Article | | Dishing on the New 2011 USDA Dietary Guidelines by Simla Somturk Wickless, MBA, CHC, CNE The "official" USDA dietary guidelines, released as a joint effort between the U.S. Department of Agriculture ("USDA") and the Department of Health and Human Services, make a splash every five years when they are updated based on the most recent research. This past month was no exception. February is also Wise Consumer Health Month, established by the American Institute for Preventive Medicine to teach people how to be more involved with their health care. The new 2011 USDA dietary guidelines offer a great starting point to talk about how you can become wiser with your own food choices and become an advocate for your own health. Why? Because general guidelines - "official" or not - are not always the best advice for you personally. CLICK HERE to read on...

WANT TO USE THIS ARTICLE IN YOUR EZINE OR WEB SITE? You may, as long as you include this complete blurb with it: "Simla Somturk Wickless, MBA, CHC, CNE, is an integrative health, nutrition, and lifestyle coach whose mission is to transform busy bodies into healthy, balanced beings TM. To learn how to zing your energy, tame your stress, and take back control of your health, register for her complimentary monthly eZine at www.enjoydelicioushealth.com." | Featured Recipe | | Sweet Cauliflower-Apple "Winter Detox" Soup This soup was another creation to manifest from one of my pantry experiments and it has quickly become a new favorite. I wanted to create a soup that was delicious, warming, easy. On top of that, my mission was to combine several vegetables that: - are often overlooked or under-appreciated
- trigger a gentle yet robust detox response in the body
- are seasonally appropriate, for winter
- are ridiculously healthy
- are scrumptiously delicious
While it looks complicated because of the number of ingredients, I promise you it'll be one of the easiest recipes you've ever prepared. You just throw it all into the largest pot you have and - voila! - delicious soup, enough to freeze extras for a busier, colder day!

Simla Recommends | | Not Sure What to Believe About Organic vs. Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs)?
Then I suggest you browse the Organic Consumer Association's website and look at what might be a different point of view than the ones you've been exposed to so far (or your own, for that matter).
The organic vs. GMO / conventional agriculture debate is a hot one that will continue to get hotter.
Some questions you may want to explore further:
- Do we deserve or need to know whether the produce or foods we're buying have been genetically modified?
- Is organic agriculture really more sustainable and better for the environment?
- Do conventional foods and practices have an impact on our health, possibly as yet undocumented, but perhaps which are already anecdotally traceable?
Check out the Organic Consumers Association's website here and make up your own mind.
Note: I have no monetary relationship with any of the people, practitioners, places, or programs I recommend unless I specifically note otherwise. I just want to share these amazing resources with you! That said, I can't guarantee or be responsible for your experience either.
