November is National Alzheimer's Awareness Month. Being able to recognize the signs of a possible problem is very important.

When asked, many of us might identify memory loss as a sign, but what about the other areas affected by Alzheimer's, such as emotion and behavior? Being able to accurately identify potential signs of Alzheimer's can facilitate proper assessment and earlier treatment.

Why highlight Alzheimer's disease this month? Approximately 5.2 million Americans are living with the disease. The disease touches everyone, either directly or indirectly through loved ones or costs to our healthcare system.

Why shine the spotlight on caregivers? 60% of caregivers are balancing jobs, and many also are caring for their own families. The work of caregivers is estimated to be valued at $522 billion each year.
