The topics of rape and sexual assault have made headlines the past few weeks due to an insensitive (and inaccurate) comment from Missouri Republican Senate nominee Todd Akin. He stated that "legitimate rape" rarely leads to pregnancy. (He's wrong. Research has in fact found that pregnancy may be more likely from rape than a one-time consensual sex act.)
The past few weeks must be difficult for survives of sexual assault, as reminders of the trauma can be difficult, especially for those who develop PTSD. In fact, 31 to 57% of women who have experienced a rape will develop PTSD at some point thereafter.
It's back to school time, and even if you're not headed back to the classroom, it's still a great time to get into the "back-to-school" spirit and brush up on some basic running skills. Whether you're a new or experienced runner, it never hurts to review running concepts.
