Think Salads Are Automatically Low Fat? Think Again
I remember stopping off at a local fast food joint with my kids and thinking that the healthiest option for me would be a salad. I ordered the chef's salad. When it landed on my tray, I looked at the crispy breaded chicken pieces (pretty sure I ordered grilled chicken), bacon bits, chopped eggs, blue cheese crumbles, and black olives that lay on top of the iceberg lettuce and realized that a small burger and fries might have been a tad healthier.

What could be healthier or more low fat than salad? Well, it depends what’s in it and on it. In its basic state—a bed of salad leaves with chopped vegetables, it is indeed low fat and healthy. It’s what is added to our salads that can get us into trouble.
