Sex on the Big Screen
I don’t know this for certain, having never experienced it, but I’m pretty sure that being famous sucks.  When I do get to meet people with immense power or fame, they rarely seem happier than people I meet without it.  These experiences lead me to never wish celebrity on anyone I care about.  And yet, I’m an unashamed consumer of a few brands of celebrity culture, and the Oscars top my list.  To get us all in the mood, here are some considerations of sex in Hollywood (and in the Other Hollywood).  I wish we saw a little more celebration of sexual pleasure in mainstream film, but I’ll take what I can get, and mostly I’m just watching for the clothes and Meryl Streep.  ~  Cory

 

Real Sex Scenes in Film
Our fascination with mainstream movies that contain “real” sex forces us to content with several urgent questions:  what constitutes “real” sex?  Who decides that the sex is real?  The filmmaker?  The actors?  The publicists?  And if a well acted sex scene in a Hollywood movie feels more real and/or arousing to us than a scene from a porn film where we see the graphic details of sex, does that make it more or less real?  All these questions are better answered after seeing at least a few of these mainstream and independent films now notorious for including real sex.

Sex scenes in movies are commonplace yet masturbation turns up less frequently, and more often with either embarrassing or hilarious results.   With the exception of masturbation scenes in goofball comedies, masturbation scenes in movies are often more authentic than the partner sex scenes.
