From Daniel More, MD, your Guide to Allergies
Rashes are a common reason for people to see their doctor. Most of these rashes are minor annoyances, limited to one area of the body, and may or may not itch. Other rashes, however, may involve the entire body, or more sensitive areas such as the face. Whatever the severity, rashes are distressing for many people, and can often turn a person's life upside down. There are a wide variety of causes of allergic rashes, including some unusual rashes -- pregnant women experience a number of unique rashes, some of which are dangerous, while most are not. Rashes that involve only the eyelids are fairly common, especially in women, often as a result of hair dye or facial cosmetics. Lastly, rashes that occur after swimming are common during the summertime, and have different causes based on whether the rash affects the skin under the swimsuit or if the rash affects the exposed skin.

Itching and Rashes During Pregnancy
Itching, with or without a rash, is a common symptom for many people. Itching can be the result of a skin disease, such as an allergic skin rash, or an internal medical issue, such as liver or thyroid disease. Itching during pregnancy can be caused by a few unique diseases related to being pregnant. Sometimes it may have nothing to do with the pregnancy. Either way, having an itchy rash during pregnancy can add anxiety to an otherwise stressful time for many women.

Eyelid Rashes
Eyelid rashes are a common problem, especially for women, and can be caused by a variety of allergic reactions and autoimmune diseases. The skin over the eyelids is very thin, and is especially susceptible to rashes caused by allergy. I commonly see patients with eyelid rashes in my practice as an allergist, and most people are surprised when they find out the cause of their symptoms. A large portion of these patients have allergic causes to their symptoms, often due to cosmetics or hair care products that they use in everyday life.

Itchy Rash After Swimming
There are many causes of itchy rashes after swimming, including insect bites, cold urticaria and many causes of sun allergy after a day in the sun. Microscopic organisms cause two special types of itchy rashes after swimming, one from exposure to freshwater (lakes, ponds, rivers and streams), the other from saltwater (the ocean).
