If you've ever seen a loved one with dementia begin to use words he's never uttered aloud in his whole life, you know why I'm asking this question. Dementia can sometimes change a person to the point where we need to remind ourselves that it's the disease talking, not our loved one. In other cases, personality, habits and language (good or bad) seem to stay constant despite memory loss. Below are some thoughts about this issue- a few about the "why" of it, but more on possible responses when faced with this situation.
