What Are Phytosterols?
Phytosterols, also known as plant sterols, are cholesterol-like molecules found in a variety of foods. Recent research suggests that phytosterols are a heart-healthy ingredient to add to your diet, but how do they work?

How Do Phytosterols Lower Cholesterol?
Phytosterols have received a lot of attention when it comes to lowering your cholesterol. In fact, studies have found that daily consumption of two grams or more of phytosterol could lower your LDL cholesterol by up to 10%. But exactly how does it lower your LDL?

Which Foods Contain Phytosterols?
There are many healthy foods that contain phytosterols -- ranging from nuts to vegetables. Do any of your favorite foods contain high amounts of phytosterols? While this list isn't all-inclusive, it can give you a good idea of phytosterol content in various foods.
