| | The headline "Bipolar Disorder Uncommon With Depression" caught my eye a couple of days ago. Huh? Turns out it was a very badly written headline for a study on how often treatment-resistant depression is really bipolar disorder. Sheesh. | | Is BP Under-Diagnosed or Not? I ran across two reports on recent studies where the researchers' conclusions about under-diagnosed bipolar disorder contradict each other. The studies themselves were quite different, but addressing the question of whether bipolar disorder goes unrecognized as often as has been thought, one said no and the other said yes. The thing is, do the conclusions make sense? I don't think one of them does. | Lack of Diagnosis Leads to a Tragic Life He first attempted suicide at 6. He was hospitalized for 30 days at 14 and was told nothing was wrong with him. He was plotting murder by arson when finally hospitalized again, a long time later, and diagnosed with bipolar 1.
