Fuzzy Math and Clearer Thinking on World AIDS Day
Today is World AIDS Day. I feel torn about these official "days of recognition" that come from the powers that be. Are these days to put something positive in the world, to focus on what I can do more or better in my own life and my work to reduce the amount of human suffering that occurs in the world around HIV/AIDS? Or is it okay to be pissed off at the idea that there's one day we should really think hard about things so the other days we can feel okay about forgetting?

If you ever read her, saw her present, or had the pleasure of meeting her, it's unlikely you would forget Laura Hershey. I first heard the story of activist Connie Panzarino marching in a pride parade holding a sign that read "Trached Lesbians can Eat Pussy for Hours" from Laura. And Laura's writing, both non-fiction and poetry, was a rare mixture of honesty and generosity.
