From Ann Pizer, your Guide to Yoga
I often get requests for recommendations for yoga music. My view is that you can do yoga to any music you like or no music at all, but I can offer a few suggestions for popular contemporary kirtan singers, which is what you hear in a lot of yoga classes. I'm pleased to be able to open up a forum for readers to share thoughts your favorite music with each other. I know a lot of teachers make carefully thought-out playlists, so let us in on your process.

Yoga Music
Anything from Icelandic pop to hip-hop, reggae, ambient sounds and traditional chanting can be great music for yoga. It just depends on what you like to listen to. If you're looking for kirtan singers, here are a few popular recommendations.

Pose of the Week - Monkey Pose - Hanumanasana

As a hamstring-challenged person (that's how we of the tight hamstrings prefer to be referenced), I have had a lot of experience using yoga blocks to prop myself into a tenable hanumanasana. I recommend having three blocks on hand, one for each hand and one to slip under your front leg for support when it gets close enough to the floor. The problem that the hamstring-challenged face is in keeping the torso relatively upright instead of slumping towards the front leg. The block under your hands can be used at whatever height is appropriate to bring your spine closer to perpendicular. A block under the front thigh offers some support and gives you the opportunity to work on squaring the hips. If you have the contoured Three Minute Egg block, this is a nice use for it.
