My Plate Method
For a long time, the food model most of us thought of for a healthy diet was the food guide pyramid -- building up a healthy diet from the bottom up with healthy grains, fruits and vegetables. The model was around for many years, but the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has replaced it with a new model -- a simple meal plate.

Increase Flavor with Fresh Herbs
One great way to increase the flavor factor when you're following a healthy diabetic diet is to use fresh herbs. In general, a diabetic diet is going to be low in fat, sodium and sugar. Fresh herbs can replace the flavor lost by removing these components in a healthy way. Here are some tips on buying, storing, and using fresh herbs in your healthy diabetic recipes.

How to Saute With No Oil
Whether you're diabetic or just looking to keep your calories within a healthier range, "no oil sauteing" is a healthy cooking method worth trying. It's probably not how you learned to cook in a skillet -- most traditional saute recipes call for use of oil or butter to keep food from sticking. But sauteing without oil is just as quick as regular sauteing, minus the added fat and calories.

Diabetic Snack Ideas
Diabetic meal plans are not "one size fits all". Some diabetics will have snacks built into their meal plans on the recommendation of their medical team, or based on their personal food preferences. But even if snacks are not a part of your meal plan, there are still times that you'll need to make smart snacking decisions.
