I had heard of the P90X home fitness program through pop culture references and its celebrity fans, but I had no idea until recently that it contained a yoga element. Curious, I got my hands on the yoga DVD and can now report my findings back to you.

P90X Yoga
P90X's yoga class is basically 90 minutes of power yoga. It's a pretty intense introduction for people who have never done yoga before.

Power Yoga
Power yoga is a general term used in the West to describe a vigorous, fitness-based approach to vinyasa-style yoga. Though many consider it to be "gym yoga," this style of practice was originally closely modeled on the Ashtanga method.

Pose of the Week - Warrior I - Virabhadrasana I
I love learning tricks for using the wall to give yourself an assist to deepen a pose or improve alignment. I picked up this warrior I trick, for which you will need a block, in class last week. Set up for the pose facing the wall with your toes right at the baseboard. Bend your front knee to come into the pose and position a block between your knee and the wall. The block acts like an extension of the wall so you can press into it and lower your thigh until it is truly parallel to the floor, a position we may shy away from without the prop. Rinse and repeat on the other side.
