From Marcia Purse, your Guide to Bipolar Disorder
One of the things I took away from the DBSA Conference was that of challenging yourself. I need to do that right now, and I know many of you do, too. So I'm starting Challenges - ways to improve your life in spite of being depressed, hypomanic or manic. We're starting off with depression - and I'm challenging myself on this one, too.

Bipolar Challenge #1
Do you find it hard to get moving when you are depressed? Do you sit and watch television for hours, or waste a long time on Facebook, or even just not get out of bed? Do you want to get moving, be productive, get things done but just have no initiative and no drive? If so, you need to join in the first Bipolar Challenge - Getting Moving.

Talk About the Challenge
You've read about my Challenge to you and to myself - now let's hear what your goal is and how you're doing. If you're having trouble, others can help; if you're meeting or exceeding your goal, share your pride and give help to others who need it.

Share What Works for You
If you've been in this situation before, you may have found ways of getting yourself out of your chair or bed already. Share those ideas here.

Signs of Depression
Sometimes a person doesn't even realize that a certain feeling or behavior is a sign of depression. Here is an in-depth look at the clinical criteria for a depressive episode and how, within the categories, the symptoms can vary a long way from person to person.
