From Marcia Purse, your Guide to Bipolar Disorder
When many of you asked me to be sure to attend the DBSA Conference's session on impulsivity, you also mentioned hypersexuality as an impulsive behavior. That's true - and it can also be an obsessive one. I begin today with a roundup of the conference and then give you three resources with more information about hypersexuality. Farther down you'll find links to definitions of some terms people often wonder about related to bipolar disorder.

DBSA 2010 Annual Conference - Highs and Lows
I had a wonderful time at the Depression and Bipolar Disorder Alliance's 2010 Annual Conference, and besides meeting some wonderful people, I picked up a wealth of information and ideas to share with you. Here's an overview of the best and worst of the conference. Expect much more in weeks to come.

What Is Hypersexuality?
Generally, people seem to have the idea that hypersexuality means wanting to have sexual encounters all the time, not caring who the partner is. But it's more than that - take a look.

Manic Hypersexuality and Sexual Addiction
Hypersexuality is often a symptom of the manic phase of bipolar disorder. But if this escalates into an obsession, the person may have developed a sexual addiction.

Male Hypersexuality
There is a line between being enjoying sex with its peripheral pleasures and sexual addiction. In sexual addiction long periods of time are given over to sex-related activities. Sex addicts feel unable to control sexual behavior or even reduce its incidence.
