There are many people with anxiety disorders, including those with panic disorder and agoraphobia, who often use alcohol as a primary means of coping with their fear and worry. However, alcohol abuse can actually increase anxiety and panic symptoms in the long run. Substance Abuse to Reduce Anxiety
