Sex Toys

From Cory Silverberg, your Guide to Sexuality
As sex toys become more socially acceptable, and morph from something that was once seen as secretive or kinky to a health care tool no different than a toothbrush or shower head (...hey...wait a minute...) there is undoubtedly something we are losing. I'm not saying I long for the days when, in order to buy a vibrator, you'd have to make your way past leering and judgmental staff, eating take out behind the counter and laughing openly at the customers naked desires. I'm glad there are friendly sex stores and friendlier sex toys. But there's an edge that is disappearing. A fear and sense of power that comes with openly doing something you aren't supposed to do. What is forbidden is a turn on. And as Amazon and CVS ramp up their sexual health sections, and the porn industry collaborates with mainstream media and a new generation of pornographers to hide it's true dirty deeds (most of which have to do with exploiting labor) a part of me mourns the public opportunities to explore scary sex. They haven't disappeared entirely, but they are getting harder to find. ~ Cory
