From Marcia Purse, your Guide to Bipolar Disorder
Shifting moods - we all have them. For some of us, mood episodes last a long time before changing; for others, the mood cycle is much shorter or very short. This week we look at some issues to do with moods and give you a couple of opportunities to talk about your own.

What's Your Mood Today?
Every so often I ask this question on Facebook, and each time the replies surprise me - the distribution between high, stable and low tends to be even. So I thought I'd ask a larger audience the same question. Take the poll, and feel free to leave a comment as well.

Injury? Surgery? How Did It Affect Your Mood?
Have you had an injury or a surgery that had a significant impact on your day-to-day life? How did this affect your mood, and how did you cope with mood during your recovery? Share your story - and share your advice with others who might face similar situations in the future.

What Is a Mood Episode?
Dictionary definitions of "episode" abound, but the nearest lay definition that fits a bipolar disorder episode is "an incident or event that is part of a larger sequence." The larger sequence, of course, is the ongoing flow between the highs and lows of manic depression. Here's what officially makes a mood experience an episode.

Difficult Moods in Bipolar Depression
Like the other symptoms of bipolar depression, the difficult moods listed here - irritability, anger, worry/anxiety, pessimism, indifference, and a tendency to be self-critical - may also be present in major depressive disorder. The difference, of course, is that in bipolar disorder there are also episodes of mania or hypomania.
