There are so many myths about bipolar disorder that it's hard to say which is most prevalent. I expect, given how little attention is given to the overwhelming masses of BP patients who never get into much trouble, the main one is that we are all violent, all likely to be criminals. Myths About Bipolar Disorder
Author Hilary Smith wrote a wonderful article on bipolar disorder myths, saying, at the end, that people with BP "can have happy, productive, meaningful, awesome lives. Yes, the awesomeness will be interspersed with periods of depression and mania, but that's just how they roll." Do you have a story about encountering myths or stigma? I've got a place for you to share it.

Metformin and Atypical Antipsychotics
It's well known that drugs like Zyprexa and Seroquel can cause weight gain and may lead to insulin resistance and diabetes. A recent study looked at the effect of Metformin, a common medication used to treat high blood sugar, in patients taking atypical antipsychotics.

Is It Bipolar Disorder or Schizophrenia?
Bipolar 1 disorder with psychotic features and schizophrenia have psychosis in common, but there are no mood swings in schizophrenia. Add schizoaffective disorder - where there are mood swings and psychotic episodes but not at the same time, and it gets even more complicated.
