From Pam Stephan, your Guide to Breast Cancer
Lots of new research was presented at the 33rd annual San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium. Doctors, patients, inventors, and scientists from 90 countries all gathered to hear about the latest advances, ask questions, and learn. I'll be highlighting some of the latest news for you over the next few weeks.

Aromatase Inhibitors Costly, Many Patients Quit
If you had estrogen-sensitive breast cancer, then you've heard of Tamoxifen and Aromasin, and other hormonal therapies given over 5 years to prevent a recurrence. Many patients quit taking these drugs before the 5 years are complete. One team of researchers cited high copays as a problem - but is that all there is to it? Let me know what you think.

Tissue Expanders And Breast Reconstruction
When I was facing a mastectomy, my general surgeon sent me to a plastic surgeon to learn about my reconstruction options. After talking to other women who had survived and shared their experience with me, I chose to go with an implant. But first, I needed a temporary tissue expander, to make way for the real thing. Here's the scoop on tissue expanders.

Tissue Expansion Procedure
Before I had my first tissue expansion, the sister of a friend called me up. She had just had a double mastectomy with implant reconstruction. Breast cancer runs in her family, so when a lump was found, she took the surgical leap. This lady said she was fascinated by watching her "breasts" grow during expansion treatments. She had always been small-breasted, and now she was going to have cleavage! Hearing her story encouraged me - and banished most of my fear. Now you can know what to expect, too.

Diane LeBleu - Breast Cancer Survivor Story
Diane is a breast cancer survivor with a twin sister - who is also a survivor! When a breast lump turned out to be cancer, she had a plan of action, but all her family lived far away. She went looking for support and information - and found it at her fingertips! Now in remission, Diane gives back to her local breast cancer community by helping other young survivors and with her new company, Pink Pockets.
