From Cory Silverberg, your Guide to Sexuality
Last week Catherine Rampell had a depressing but admittedly fascinating piece in the Times Economix blog, breaking down just how much Kim Kardashian made during her 72 day marriage to Kris Humphries. Most of the time when economists (or business journalists) venture into writing about people the results are predictably flat. Economics can provide an interesting and complicated lens for analysis, the problem is usually the people who are peering through and reporting. This is not the case with a new activist initiative called Vulvanomics, an effort to get us to look at both the bottom line and the big picture of the female genital cosmetic surgery industry. It's worth having a look. ~ Cory

Vulvanomics: Pleasure and Profit
My friend, Ducky Doolittle suggested a different title for this piece "Snip Your Bits". It's more graphic, to be sure, but I felt I should stick with the tone of the actual activist campaign, which is arguing for greater oversight and regulation of cosmetic genital surgeries which are done in the absence of a lot of data on the negative consequences.

Female Genital Cosmetic Surgery and the Problem with Normal
A study in the Medical Journal of Australia used an interesting path to consider the growth of labiaplasty and the way that both patients and medical practitioners are thinking about the procedure.

Mapping Out Your Sexual Body
This may seem like an odd question, but have you ever asked yourself how you know what you know about your own body?

Sex Question: Pleasure and Female Circumcision
An About.com reader writes: I am a lady from Africa and I was going through your site and I thought of sharing my problem with you. In our community they circumcise women and Yes that was done to me. Apparently I lost confidence to be with men in bed especially those who want to touch my clitoris (I refuse because I don't want them to know that I don't have it). I have been watching some porn movies and I wish I could feel how they feel. I need to have oral sex but I just can't because it is shaming. Please help me.
