From Daniel More, MD, your Guide to Allergies

There are numerous over-the-counter (OTC) medications available for the treatment of allergy symptoms. Some of these, like oral decongestants such as Sudafed (pseudoephedrine) and sedating antihistamines like Benadryl (diphenhydramine), have been available for many years. Others, such as Claritin (loratadine), Allegra (fexofenadine) and Zyrtec-D (cetirizine/pseudoephedrine), have only recently become available OTC without a prescription. Even earlier, in 2014, an intranasal corticosteroid, Nasacort, became available OTC without a prescription. For many people, treating allergy symptoms now takes a trip to the corner drug store, instead of a trip to their doctor.

In 2014, Nasacort became the first intranasal corticosteroid to become available OTC without a prescription. Find out if this is a good idea, or a bad idea, depending on if you're a consumer or an insurance company.

Inexpensive Allergy Treatments
With prices on the rise for just about everything these days, everyone is looking to save money. And, with gas prices at historic highs, nobody wants to make unnecessary trips to the doctor’s office or local drugstore for medical treatments. Now that allergy season is in full swing, everybody is looking for cheaper, easier ways to treat their allergy symptoms.
