Body checking - an obsessive thought or behavior about appearance. The behavior is most common in those with eating disorders, but most of us have likely engaged in some form of it, either through frequent weighing, constantly looking in the mirror, pinching fat, or asking others about our appearance.
Repeated engagement isn't healthy. It leads to increased negative mood and body dissatisfaction. The goal isn't to completely avoid facing your body though – that's another unhealthy extreme! Instead, the best solution is to practice the 2 steps outlined below.
