This week's newsletter focuses on a type of dementia that, while not as common as Alzheimer's disease, causes more than its fair share of distress and frustration for patients, caregivers, and professionals alike. Sometimes called Dementia With Lewy Bodies, this type of dementia is characterized by daily ups and downs in levels of confusion, visual hallucinations, and gait problems.

This is article provides a general overview of Lewy Body Dementia, including how common it is, what the causes might be, and how it was first recognized.

Defining Lewy Bodies
Adding to the complicated nature of this diagnosis, lewy bodies are also found in the brains of people with Parkinson's disease as well as some people with Alzheimer's disease.

Other Types of Dementia
Alzheimer's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia are the two most common types of dementia, but there are literally over 100 causes of dementia. This article summarizes some of the other more common types of dementia.
