I assisted her from the beginning and was promoted to Guide a few months later. From then until December last year - nearly 12 years - we worked together to bring our readers the information they want and need to know. Kim's decision to leave About Bipolar Disorder was a difficult one, but a new and very demanding job was making it too stressful for her to continue. I miss her, and I thank her for all that she taught me during our long partnership at About.com. What Causes Bipolar Disorder? In this reader-favorite article, Kimberly gives a clear explanation of researchers' best theory regarding the cause of bipolar disorder. How Is Bipolar Disorder Diagnosed? Kimberly wrote, "Diagnosing bipolar disorder is not as easy as diagnosing a cold or even diabetes. It takes time and careful analysis of the patient's mental, medical and family history." What is Grandiosity? "Grandiose" does, of course, have lay definitions such as, "large and impressive, in size, scope or extent; pompous or pretentious." But "grandiosity" is a symptom of bipolar mania and hypomania, and has a more specific definition when used in that context. Kimberly explains it well.
