Cholesterol-Lowering Diet

From Jennifer Moll, your Guide to Cholesterol
Niacin is a popular and widely used cholesterol lowering supplement. After all, it's fairly inexpensive, easy to obtain, and appears to affect many aspects of your cholesterol profile. But what do you need to really know about niacin?

What Is Niacin?
Niacin works differently than other cholesterol-lowering products available on the market. While it is able to affect all aspects of your cholesterol profile, it also has undesirable side effects, too.

How Can I Prevent Niacin Side Effects?
If you've ever taken nicotinic acid, a form of niacin, you might be familiar with its side effects, such as flushing, itching, and hot flashes. Although these side effects are pretty common, they can be intolerable to the point that some people stop taking nicotinic acid.

Is There A Difference Between Different Niacin Supplements?
If you are using niacin supplements to lower cholesterol levels, you may have noticed that there are many different types of niacin. All forms of niacin are not created equally, so which form of niacin supplements are best for lowering cholesterol?

Types of Niacin
Niacin has gained a lot of popularity lately because of its heart-healthy benefits. What you might not know is that the word "niacin" is actually a blanket term that covers three slightly different chemicals.
