New Form of Endoscopic Scanning Has Improved the Detection of a Precancerous Condition
Barrett's esophagus, a possible complication of long-term or under-treated Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), is a primary risk factor for esophageal cancer. Now, a new endoscopic scanning technique developed by scientists in the Biomedical Imaging and Spectroscopy Laboratory (BISL) at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC - at Harvard Medical School) has proven successful in the early detection of dysplasia in Barrett's esophagus.
