A client of mine, let's call her Sasha, and I were having a rather philosophical discussion one day about her struggles to stay healthy for more than a few days or weeks at a time. Her question was: "What's holding me back from taking care of myself?"
That's a loaded question, but it may be the most important question to ask if you're finding it hard to stick to exercise/healthy eating. We all have good reasons or, more likely, excuses, for why we don't exercise or eat right - but what's behind those excuses? Fear of failure? Guilt for putting your own needs first and, perhaps, disappointing other people in your life? Maybe some of us feel so bad about our behaviors, we don't think we deserve to take care of ourselves.
