From Marcia Purse, your Guide to Bipolar Disorder
If you were in the path of the superstorm, I hope your life is starting to get in order again. Be careful to take your meds correctly, and if you're frazzled or depressed and have to make important decisions, get help from someone you trust who is able to remain calm and objective. My best wishes!

Reader Says Bipolar is a Myth
"Bipolar is not a mental illness, it is a label given to people who find it hard to cope with themselves, need attention and are who want to be cared for and controlled by medication." That's just a small part of a reader named Beidoj wrote on a blog comment. I guess we can never completely erase the myth that bipolar is a myth, but neither can we leave this kind of thinking unchallenged. I've written my reply. You can, too.

Psychosis and Spiritualism
Another reader, Tatiana, sent me a couple of questions about schizophrenia / hallucinations and spirituality. While I've explained some of the misunderstandings she has, I can't answer her questions because they really require personal insights that I don't have. Has your faith been shaken by your illness? Has it helped you? Share your feelings and experience.

Connie Francis and Bipolar Disorder
Some of you are too young to remember the voice of Connie Francis, but her story is powerful to anyone. Believe it or not, I still have the 45rpm vinyl single of the song that made her a star, "Who's Sorry Now?" (It's backed with another song, "You Were Only Foolin'," that I used to go around singing a lot when I was a kid.) Read the story of Connie Francis.

Celebrities and Mental Illnesses
Struggling with mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder and depression can often make life seem bleak and future prospects seem blurred. It can be inspirational to learn that someone famous, someone who has achieved apparent success understands the same battles. Found here is a compilation of articles about famous people who have, who understand, who advocate for those with mental illnesses.
