Gertrude Elion - Pioneer of Cancer Drug Development
New York City welcomed Gertrude Elion into the world in 1918 on a freezing January night. She was the child of European immigrants who encouraged her to get a good education. During the Depression, she overcame financial difficulties, the untimely death of her fiance, and barriers to women in medical research. Despite this, she developed targeted drug therapies for AIDS and cancer. Read more here.

Gertrude Elion pioneered in the study of biochemical differences between healthy cells and rouge cells. Elion and her mentor George H.
