From Laura Dolson, your Guide to Low Carb Diets
Hi, All - First, I need to thank each and every person that left a comment on last week's blog where I shared my weight loss story. Frankly, I was a little nervous to read the comments, but my heart was truly warmed by the response. I will be writing more about obesity in the future (next installment will be later in the month). This week, there is exciting news, as I share my conversations with folks at the American Diabetes Association, which has a checkered past in regards to low-carb eating. Have a healthy week! Laura

ADA Says Low-Carb A-OK
A hundred years ago, low-carb eating was considered to be the ONLY way to control diabetes, but later in the century the American Diabetes Association started recommending more and more carbohydrate, and putting out negative statements about low-carb eating. In the last few years, they have slowly backed off of that, first saying that low-carb was OK for weight loss in the short-term. Last year they actually started putting out info that low-carb was a viable alternative for blood glucose control. Now this year they are actively putting out the word that carboydrate should be customized to the individual and that low-carb eating is fine as long as it's nutritionally complete. AND they are saying that it's been fine with them for years. Here's my chat with a couple of people at the ADA about this.

ADA Standards Related to Diet
This is info from the latest in the ADA Standards as it applies to diet. They say that low-carb is OK, but if someone is using low-carb, monitor those blood lipids (yes, watch them improve dramatically, in most cases!!).

Several of these steps are about foods to add to your diet - it's just as important to know what to eat instead of carbs!

7 Myths About Low-Carb Diets
There are lots of misconceptions floating around about low-carb eating. These really bug me.
