From Katharina Star, your Guide to Panic Disorder
Your body often first feels the effects of stress and anxiety. Muscle pain, tension, and tightness are common issues for people with anxiety disorders. Research has shown that if you learn how to relax your body, you are more likely to also be able to calm your mind. Learn some simple and effective ways to physically relax, let go of mental stress, and reduce anxiety.

Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR)
Progressive muscle relaxation is a technique that was first developed in the 1920s by American physician Edmund Jacobson. Noticing that most of his patients experienced muscle pain and discomfort, Jacobson created this technique to help them relax both physically and mentally. He believed that by letting go of tension throughout the body, his patients would then be able to release mental and emotional tension. Find out more the history, benefits, and steps to PMR.

PMR Exercise
PMR is an easy relaxation technique that only requires a distraction free area and about 5 to 10 minutes of your time. This exercise starts off with some simple deep breathing to get you more focused and relaxed. Next you are guided though a series of steps that instruct you on tightening and relaxing all of your muscle groups. Follow this PMR exercise and start feeling more relaxed today.

Yoga for Panic Disorder
Yoga can be a helpful way to relax both the body and mind. Yoga involves deep breathing, stretching, and balancing, all of which can help reduce feelings of anxiety by refreshing your body and refocusing your mind. Yoga poses can relieve stress felt throughout the body and help decrease feelings of nervousness. Learn more about yoga, including how it can help with panic disorder.

Physical Exercise for Panic and Anxiety
Physical exercise can be another effective way to relieve anxiety-related symptoms. Exercise has been found to lower tension and stiffness felt throughout the body, reduce feelings of pain and stress, and decrease the body's sensitivity to the effects of anxiety. Here you will find more information on the benefits of regular physical exercise, how to get started with exercise, and ways to maintain an exercise plan.
