| | Every year in the spring I migrate out of my hidey-hole and head out to learn more about what people are talking about in the science of obesity, as well as how nutrition and our metabolism interact. It starts with a conference I just got back from, and then next week I'll be on the Low-Carb Cruise! This week I bring you my first two blog posts about it all. This was the theme of this year's Nutrition and Metabolism Symposium. Many of the talks touched on the effects of different calorie sources in our bodies. One recommendation: Be sure to eat a high-protein breakfast! | Random Facts from the Obesity Review Course I had an opportunity to sit in on half a day of the course where they prepare physicians to take the exam to become a specialist in Obesity Medicine (Bariatrics). Although they were rocketing through various topics, I was able to pick up some interesting tidbits. | How to Overcome Fat Phobia More and more, the physicians I talk to at these conferences are totally on board with the importance to lowering carbohydrate in the diets of their patients. But I still detect squeamishness in some at the idea of suggesting adding fats to the diet.
