From Cory Silverberg, your Guide to Sexuality
This week I answer a question from a woman who was married for 25 years to the only man she ever had sex with. Now she's divorced and wondering about "getting back to sex." It made me think of the way we make sex normal by pretending there are times for sex and times when sex is unexpected or unusual. I'm not sure what we base this on, as there's no actual data that tracks our sexual activity throughout our lives, in and around specific rites of passage. I think pretending there is a predictable or "normal" course to our sex lives makes sex an easier thing to think about, talk about and teach about. But that doesn't make it any more real or relevant to our actual sex lives. In honor of these deep thoughts, this week's newsletter features answers to reader's questions about sex near the beginning, in the middle, and right at the end of what they perceive to be their sex lives. ~ Cory
