From Marcia Purse, your Guide to Bipolar Disorder
I hope we go back to the moon again in my lifetime. When I saw Neil Armstrong, who died a few days ago, and Buzz Aldrin (see below) walking on the moon, I really thought the world was headed for something big - soon. A moon base wasn't out of reach. Ships assembled there would need far less fuel to take off in 1/6th gravity. Alas for all of us dreamers! So I say a fond farewell to Armstrong, who lit up my hopes in 1969. Safe journey out there.

You're So Bipolar!
Phrases like this are coming into common use more and more. You don't have to have bipolar to have this flung at you. In addition, reader Emmy Lou feels like people are becoming more afraid of people with bipolar, not less, in spite of campaigns to promote understanding. Lines like, "Oh my, here we go, another loose cannon gone bipolar, slipped down, couldn't get much lower..." (Shinedown: "Sound of Madness") don't help. How do you feel about this?

Racing Thoughts
Racing thoughts are a common symptom of mania, hypomania and mixed episodes. I remember when, long before I'd been diagnosed with anything, what I called "racy brain" sometimes made me want to bang my head against a wall. Do you have them? Need to describe them to others? Here's helpful info: Racing Thoughts.

Pressured Speech
Some say pressured speech is an outcome of racing thoughts, but I've found no data on the subject. Still, there's definitely a similarity - one is thoughts flying, the other is speech flying. To understand more about this symptom of mania and hypomania, and for help explaining it, read: Pressured Speech.

Buzz Aldrin Does NOT Have Bipolar
The death a few days ago of astronaut Neil Armstrong has folks also thinking about Aldrin, who was the second man to walk on the Moon. Buzz's name appears on lists of bipolar celebrities all over the internet. I don't know who started that, but there's no information to support that claim. Get the truth: Buzz Aldrin - Not Bipolar.
