From Ann Pizer, your Guide to Yoga
Not too long ago, I wrote here about the newfound prevalence of the abdominal crunch in many of the yoga classes I take regularly. It's all part of an increased focus on the importance of core strength. Luckily, you can also work your core in many different ways just by doing a regular yoga routine. Here are a few options.

Pose of the Week - Upward Facing Dog
When my teacher makes the rounds during upward facing dog, I always get excited because I know I am going to get one of my favorite adjustments. Applying his bent knee firmly between the shoulder blades, he cups a shoulder in each hand and draws them gently back. It feels really good, and I've discovered something amazing- I don't even have to receive this adjustment in order to enjoy it. If I just imagine the simultaneous application of the knee to the back of the heart and the hands to the shoulders, I adjust myself and get almost the same effect. The mind is a powerful tool. Use it!
