 | I was surprised when Mel Gibson became a star. The reason, in hindsight, is embarrassing: I didn't think anybody would get excited about someone whose name seemed to come from "Melvin." What can I say? Certain names become "funny" names in different times (and I've certainly heard "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!" more than enough times in my life!). Anyway, Gibson has proved his worth as an actor. The jury is still out on other issues, though. | |

Mel Gibson is back in the news. His 2006 anti-Semitic rant generated a lot of headlines, and now, reportedly, a video made by his ex-girlfriend shows abusive, threatening and bigoted behavior. At the same time, people are putting Gibson on lists of people with bipolar disorder. Where's the evidence?
