After you've been practicing for awhile, it's easy to get caught up in mastering the really complicated yoga poses and forget to enjoy the simpler poses. Here are some poses that not only represent the heart of a consistent practice but form the necessary building blocks for those advanced postures.

Ten Simple Yoga Exercises
If you got out of bed and stretched your arms up this morning, you already did a yoga pose. Yoga introduces a mindfulness to stretching, so that you pay attention to your alignment and how the position really feels in your body. Here is a sequence of ten poses that look simple but will stretch and strengthen your major muscle groups.

Pose of the Week - Half Moon Pose - Ardha Chandrasana
I've been enjoying the heck out of some ardha chandrasana recently. When I'm doing my short daily stretch sequence, I like to throw it in right after the lunge for an extra hamstring stretch. In a longer practice session, it's nice to return to ardha chandrasana later to play with your balance by starting to take the weight out of your fingertips and, eventually, lift your hand off the floor.
