From Daniel More, MD, your Guide to Allergies
Insect allergies are a major problem during the summer months. People are more likely to participate in outdoor activities, such as swimming, hiking and yard work, and therefore are likely to come into contact with various insects. These insects, which are enjoying the warm weather as well, can sting people. Stinging and biting can cause allergic reactions in certain people.

Basics of Insect Allergies
Most people experience some type of reaction after being stung by a bee or bitten by a mosquito. Usually, these reactions include pain and swelling around the sting. Allergic reactions can also occur as a result of a sting, and can even be life-threatening. Find out more about insect sting and bite allergy, who should undergo testing, and the treatments that are available.

Fire Ant Allergy
Anyone who has been stung by a fire ant knows how these insects got their name. While the stings are painful, severe allergic reactions to imported fire ants are common. Learn the DOs and DON'Ts of fire ants, and find out how allergy shots can essentially cure fire ant allergy.

Mosquito Allergy
Most people experience some form of reaction from mosquito bites -- the typical itchy red bumps that last for a couple of days. Less commonly, more severe reactions can occur. People who experience extremely large areas of swelling after a mosquito bite (such as swelling of most of an arm or leg, for example) have been dubbed as having "skeeter syndrome."

Allergy Shots and Drops (Immunotherapy)
Discussion of what allergy shots are, what they are used for and how they work are presented. Risks and benefits of allergy shots are also described.
