From Cory Silverberg, your Guide to Sexuality
I'm going to try an experiment for the next few weeks. Instead of writing a little note of introduction to the newsletter I'm going to pose a question that I found myself asking based on what I've been reading and writing about this week. Think about it for yourself, and better still, ask someone else the same question and listen to their response. This week, in response to a piece in the NYT Magazine about the sexualization of young girls, my question is this: if you think that kids are being sexualized at too young an age (whatever that means to you) what is the right age? Is there an ideal time for us to start understanding and taking on the complicated meanings and roles of adult sexual experience? ~ Cory

Saving Young People from Our Sexualization
If you spend even a moderate amount of time online someone probably sent you a video last month of a group of 8 and 9-year-old girls dancing in very adult-sexy outfits to Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)". And unless you're completely inured to the over sexualization of young people, you had some sort of reaction to it. Some thoughts on what we can do, other than panic, role our eyes, or ignore it.

A Different Story About Desire
This Friday the FDA is holding a hearing about Flibanserin, the experimental brain drug that will soon be promising to fix all that sexually ails you. The manufacturers have a big old story they're ready to tell you, and they've enlisted lots of researchers, pop psychologists, and C list celebrities to help. The problem is that they're selling the story as non-fiction, when in truth it's a bit more James Frey than it is Thomas Friedman. If you want a crash course in female desire storytelling, the New View Campaign has an excellent free review available to all.

Celebrity Sex Toy Connections
Let you think it's all overmedicated scientists and oversexualized adolescents on the About Sexuality site, here's some guilt free fluff. Celebrities are often caught in compromising sex toy scenarios. Here's a list of fully consensual celebrity sex toy (and sex toy store) endorsements. I don't recommend getting your sex toy shopping advice from celebrities, but it must be said, some of them have excellent taste in vibrators.

Sex Shop Reviews
A visit from a celebrity may get a sex shop the most digital ink, but what keeps great sex shops going are the regular customers. All our sex shop reviews come from regular folks and sexuality professionals who travel the globe experiencing the best and worst of the bricks and mortar sex shop experience. Check out a reviewed shop near you, and if you have a favorite of your own, send in your comments.
