More cookies this week! If, like me, you're in the throes of holiday baking, it's good to know where you can make a few key substitutions here and there to keep fat and calories in check. Of course, it's not just the fat we need to watch out for; it's the sugar too, and these are undoubtedly "sweet" sweet treats. So be sure to exercise a little portion control, remembering that low fat does not necessarily mean low calorie.

Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies

Low-Fat Thumbprint Cookies

Despite trying to make these cookies low fat, I still firmly believe a little butter is necessary with these. I use just a 1/4 cup, which is half a stick. If you prefer, you can use a trans-fat-free baking stick formulated from vegetable oils, which contains significantly less saturated fat than butter.


Crispy Rice Cereal Holiday Treats
These are my kids' favorite holiday cookie treats, as they love to shape these sticky morsels into holiday-themed shapes like stars and candy canes.

If you remember to keep portions in check, you'll win half the battle with overeating this holiday. But I also have some tips for reducing the fat in your holiday party food, which will also help keep things in check.
