Nasal congestion, runny nose, post nasal drip and sneezing can all be symptoms of nasal allergies or of the common cold. Other symptoms, as well as the timing or pattern of symptoms, and the response to various medicines are all a clue to determining whether symptoms are due to allergies or the common cold. | | | All About Sinus Infections | Sinus infections, also called sinusitis, are defined as inflammation of one or more sinuses. Sinuses are hollow cavities within the bones of the face. The sinuses are lined by mucous membranes that normally produce fluid – this fluid usually drains into the nasal passages and is swallowed throughout the day. However, when the drainage sites for the sinuses are blocked, the sinuses cannot drain, and an infection may develop. | | | How Allergies are Diagnosed | Hay fever, or allergic rhinitis, is the most common chronic disease, affecting up to 30 percent of the population. It is the most common reason for chronic sinus and nose problems.
