If you think about things that scare you, exercise may not rank very high on your list. There are snakes, spiders, tornadoes, those weird hairy bugs that come out of your sink and, of course, your mother-in-law.

Still, the prospect of exercise can generate fears that can actually get in the way of our workouts: Fear of injury, fear of pain and discomfort, fear of looking stupid...the list goes on.

Exercise fear is normal. The trick is to face it head on...or to, at least, sneak up on it obliquely and hope it doesn't see you.
