From Ann Pizer, your Guide to Yoga
This week's missive is dedicated to all of us who spend long hours bowed over computer terminals, with a special shout out to anyone who also carries small children in their arms on a daily basis. Because I count myself in your numbers, I can attest that these practices are a great recipe for a hunchy, achey back. Let's try to do something about that.

Poses for Better Posture
Part of improving your posture is just getting a feel for the position of your spine is doing, both on and off the yoga mat. These poses are great for increasing your spinal awareness.

Eagle Pose - Garudasana
I love the ability of eagle arms to really stretch out the center of your back so much that I include it in my warm-up sequence. It may seem like this position actually encourages hunchiness, so it's important to remember to keep the shoulders down and back.

Chair Yoga Poses
Taking breaks during the work day to release tension really helps reduce wear and tear on your body. I like the creativity of this chair sequence, which includes chair versions of three warrior poses.

Pose of the Week - Goddess Pose - Supta Baddha Konasana
My favorite pose to do at home at the moment is supta baddha konasana with a Three Minute Egg (that's an oval yoga block) between the shoulder blades. It's the perfect antidote to my kid-toting, computer-sitting hunchy days
