From Ann Pizer, your Guide to Yoga
There's been a lot of talk recently about the campaign to make yoga an Olympic event, but yoga already has a big role in the Olympics in the training routines of many top athletes. I was fortunate enough to have to opportunity to talk to a few of them about the mental and physical effects yoga has on their competitive edge.

2012 Olympic Hopefuls Prepare With Yoga
Most Olympic trials don't take place until closer to the Games, but we'll definitely be rooting for these yogi-athletes.

Yoga for Cyclists
One of the yoga-lovers who seems pretty certain to be on the U.S. Olympic team is cyclist Evelyn Stevens. If you are an avid cyclist, this routine is designed to stretch out your legs and shoulders.

Does Yoga Belong in the Olympics?
Competitive yoga in the U.S. has a distinctly Bikram flavor, which is not surprising considering that Bikram Choudhury and his wife Rajashree, both of whom were yoga champions in India, are the driving force in support of yoga's inclusion in the Olympics. Pose of the Week - Bow Pose - Dhanurasana
File this one under "doesn't seem like it should feel good but it really does." You have to have a partner at the ready, preferably one with whom you feel very comfortable. Once you come into bow pose, have your partner sit on your feet facing forward. Really encourage them to put all their weight on you. The effect of having all that pressure on your feet makes your chest rise up higher, which feels great. If everyone is ok with it, your partner can also reach around to the front of your shoulders and pull them softly back. Make sure to return the favor when you are done.
