Although the weather is lagging behind the calendar is some places, spring has sprung in others. It's a good time to get moving and inject our yoga with some vigor, so I came up with a yoga routine especially intended for early spring. It will definitely warm you up, maybe even enough to melt the icy heart of winter.

Spring Yoga Routine
According to Ayurveda, in early spring we should begin to slough off the heavy coat of winter by doing practices that build heat in the body. It makes sense, since in the cold weather we tend to be less active and more in a cozy, lethargic frame of mind. It's a good time to do some vinyasa yoga and invigorating breathing techniques, described here.

Pose of the Week - Fish Pose - Matsyasana

I had a little revelation in fish pose the other day. I'm not the back-bendiest person and I've always felt that when the top of my head is on the mat in fish, my spine is kind of flat. So I experimented with prioritizing the arch of the spine over getting my head to the mat, and lo and behold I got a much nicer back-bendy feeling when I let my head dangle just above the floor. I'm sure I'm missing out some some crown chakra action by doing the pose this way, but it feels better to me, which is what I'm all about these days.
